Millions of Americans are affected by vascular skin conditions, such as rosacea, spider veins, and telangiectasia, which can cause unsightly broken blood vessels, discoloration, and lesions to appear on the skin of the face and legs. People affected by these skin conditions often report embarrassment or self-consciousness. At Shore Vascular & Vein Center in Somers Point, New Jersey, Jeffrey Gosin, MD, FACS, has combined traditional vascular experience with state-of-the-art technology, offering excel® V laser treatment for many of these common conditions. This new technology heightens patient safety and comfort while eliminating unsightly conditions. To learn more, call Dr. Gosin to schedule your consultation or book online.
The excel V Laser is a new approach to treating vascular skin conditions that puts patients’ safety and comfort first. Unlike more traditional treatments for vascular skin conditions, such as physical or electrosurgery, the excel V laser takes advantage of cooling technologies to remove blemishes without causing pain or lasting discomfort.
The excel V laser system uses a unique high-power green laser to deliver energy to the skin. This energy is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels in the skin, heating and eliminating the abnormal vessels and ultimately restoring normal skin tone and color.
The excel V laser can be customized to each patient’s skin condition, enabling precise and effective treatment of everything from superficial blemishes to deep scars. The system also leverages innovative cooling technologies to ensure patient comfort and prevent long-term side effects or downtime.
Spider veins, or telangiectases, are tiny broken blood vessels that are permanently fixed in the dilated state. While they usually do not present a medical issue, they do create a cosmetic concern, as they can take on the appearance of fine red lines coursing through the surface of the facial skin.
Rosacea is a common disorder that mainly affects the skin on your face. While it is typically characterized by harmless cosmetic symptoms, such as redness, some patients complain of heating or discomfort when they flush. Triggers of rosacea episodes can include strenuous exercise, temperature extremes, alcohol, and spicy foods.
Leg veins are dilated vessels that range from large varicose veins to small telangiectases. Other non-laser treatment of leg veins typically involves sclerotherapy, a procedure in which a liquid is injected into the damaged vessels to harden and destroy the vessel wall. Excel V can treat leg veins up to 4mm in diameter.
A port wine stain is a type of red or purple birthmark made of dilated blood capillaries. They often appear on the face and do not fade unless they are treated. Non-laser treatment of port wine stains has included radiation, freezing, and surgery, often resulting in pain and scarring.
Cherry angiomas are small red bumps that appear spontaneously on the skin. They typically appear in middle age and will proliferate. Non-laser treatment of cherry angiomas includes cryosurgery and electrosurgery.
Many individuals develop areas of tan colored skin discoloration related to sun damage. It most commonly occurs on the face, but can also appear on the hands, legs, and body. The excel V laser can safely and effectively eliminate many of these unsightly lesions.
Excel V laser treatment is straightforward and doesn’t require the use of local or topical anesthetic. During treatment, Dr. Gosin places the excel V handpiece over the targeted areas. This handpiece pulses green laser energy onto the skin, breaking up blemishes.
The entire procedure usually takes no more than 15 to 30 minutes for completion. Depending on the nature of your skin condition, you might need additional treatments for best results.
